What moves the price

Why two similar houses get different prices

Material and finish

uPVC costs least, aluminium sits in the middle, and painted timber costs most to make and to keep. Colours and woodgrain finishes sit at the top of each range.

Access

Most upstairs windows are fitted from a mobile tower, and where a tower is needed this may add around £150. Scaffold is kept for the buildings that genuinely need it, such as the upper floors of a tall Regency house.

The openings

Rotten sills, loose brick arches and bays that carry weight need putting right before new frames go in. The home visit shows this before you commit.

Size of the job

We quote for a single window. Three or more windows make a day’s work at the normal rate, and a single window carries a call-out charge on top.

Made specially

Prices are given before survey, once the home visit has confirmed what is needed. A window that has to be made specially for the house, rather than from standard sections, costs more.

Painted timber

A timber sash is from £2,650 installed. Its first repaint falls due after about three years, and repainting is the homeowner’s job.
